Last
night, the AMA released new coding guidance for telehealth services. In
the release, the AMA also indicated they received updated guidance from CMS for
providers who render telehealth services from their home. The release
states:
“The AMA has received
clarification from CMS that physician’s do not have to add their home to their
Medicare enrollment file. We expect CMS to update FAQ #11 soon.”
The AMA also published a 13-page guide containing multiple phone, virtual
and telehealth patient encounter scenarios with associated CPT and ICD-10
guidance.
The coding guide can be found at https://www.ama-assn.org/system/files/2020-03/covid-19-coding-advice.pdf
The CMS FAQs can be found at https://www.cms.gov/files/document/provider-enrollment-relief-faqs-covid-19.pdf
We recommend providing copies of the AMA guide to your providers as well as
your coding and billing staff. We also recommend referring to the CMS and
AMA sites frequently as changes and updates are occurring rapidly.
The HBE staff is continuing to monitor the developments and are available to
assist you with your documentation, coding, utilization management and
compliance needs.
