CMS recently posted the 2025 ICD-10-CM files that contain code additions, revisions and deletions to the code set.
The implementation date of October 1, 2024 is fast approaching. The 2025 ICD-10-CM coding changes include:
- Addition of 252 new codes
- Revision of 13 codes
- Deletion of 36 codes
The ICD-10-CM chapters largely affected include:
- Neoplasms
- Mental, Behavioral and Neurodevelopmental Disorders
- Diseases of the Digestive System
- Diseases of Musculoskeletal System and Connective Tissue
- Injury, Poisoning and Certain Other Consequences of External Causes
- Factors Influencing Health Status and Contact With Health Services
We recommend reviewing the changes in their entirety and preparing now for the necessary updates. It is important that these changes be communicated with your coding and clinical staff and education is provided to ensure appropriate and compliant use of the new and revised codes as well as to prevent costly coding denials. We also recommend you confirm your IT staff is aware of the upcoming deadline and an implementation plan is in place.
