January 1, 2023 was the effective date for many important updates and changes.  It is a great time to verify your organization is ready, starting with these common action items:

• Charge description masters (CDMs) should be reviewed and updated in compliance with the 2023 code changes and pricing should be evaluated based on the fee schedule updates
• System coding and billing updates should be implemented to accomodate the 2023 code changes
• Coders should be educated on the new documentation, coding and coverage guidelines
• Clinical staff should be educated on the new documentation, coding and coverage guidelines
• Auditing and monitoring work plans should be updated to address common risk areas such as:
  • Medicare annual wellness visits
  • Evaluation and management services
  • Advance care planning
  • DRG assignment
• Policies and procedures related to documentation, coding, billing and compliance should be reviewed and updated
