In response to the continued
widespread outbreak of COVID-19, the AMA has revised one CPT code and
released two additional CPT codes to report and identify the presence
of COVID-19 antibodies
The new codes are effective April 10, 2020.

86769 (NEW) | Antibody; severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) (Coronavirus disease [COVID-19]) |
CPT code 86328 was created to report qualitative or semi-qualitative testing
using a single-step method immunoassay.
CPT code 86769 was created to report an antibody test for COVID-19 using a
multiple-step method.

In addition to these developments, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic
Security Act (CARES Act) temporarily suspended the 2% sequestration
(payment adjustment) applied to all Medicare Fee for Service Claims. The
suspension is effective for claims with dates of service from May 1 through
December 31, 2020.
