2020 CPT Changes

It is Time to Prepare for 2020 CPT

The 2020 CPT code changes will become effective January 1, 2020.  The newest edition contains hundreds of code revisions and providers have only a few short months to prepare.  Identifying the code changes, updating documentation and coding systems, fee schedules and charge description masters, as well as, educating providers and coders is critical for compliance, optimal charge capture and to avoid denials.

The 2020 edition of CPT includes:

  • 248 new codes
  • 71 deleted codes
  • 75 revised codes

The most significant additions include the following:

  • Expansion of online, digital medical evaluation services
  • Self-measured home blood pressure monitoring
  • Health and behavior assessments and interventions
  • Long term electroencephalographic (EEG) monitoring

We recommend reviewing the CPT changes, in their entirety, with your IT, clinical, coding and charge master staff to ensure a successful and timely transition.

HBE is available to assist your organization with the necessary charge master and fee schedule updates as well as provide customized documentation and coding training for your clinical and coding staff regarding the 2020 CPT updates.
