OIG Releases New Compliance Oversight Guidance for Corporate Boards

Yesterday, the Inspector General (IG) announced the new Practical Guidance for Health Care Boards on Compliance Oversight. The IG emphasized the continuing need for corporate board responsibility in terms of compliance for their organization. The new guidance outlines the government’s expectations for the board’s oversight and participation in active compliance. The topics covered include:

• Expectations for Board Oversight of Compliance Program Functions
• Roles and Relationships
• Reporting to the Board
• Identifying and Auditing Potential Risk Areas
• Encouraging Accountability and Compliance.

This is an important document that should be incorporated in to the education and training for compliance and board members. The full document may be viewed at https://oig.hhs.gov/compliance/compliance-guidance/docs/Practical-Guidance-for-Health-Care-Boards-on-Compliance-Oversight.pdf
